About Calder Foundation
PROFILE
Located in New York, in the United States, the Calder Foundation is devoted to collecting, exhibiting, preserving, and interpreting the art and archives of Alexander Calder (1898–1976). The non-profit organization was established in 1987 by Alexander S. C. Rower, its current president, and by the Calder family. The Foundation's projects include collaborating on exhibitions and publications, cataloging and maintaining the Calder archives and examining works attributed to him.
The Foundation has catalogued more than 23,000 works by Calder, ranging from monumental sculptures, mobiles, stabiles, paintings and drawings to jewelry, furniture and domestic objects. Included in the archives are thousands of photographs, films, books, magazines and press clippings,
as well as extensive historic documents covering all aspects of Calder's life and career.
Recent collaborations include exhibitions at the Fondation Beyeler (Riehen/Basel, 2016), Tate Modern (London, 2015), Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow, 2015), Pulitzer Arts Foundation (Saint Louis, 2015), Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo (Mexico City, 2015), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles, 2013-2014) and Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art (Seoul, 2013).
Over the past decade, the Foundation's programming has expanded to include projects that explore Calder’s impact on contemporary artists, many of whom the Foundation supports through the biannual Calder Prize and Atelier Calder residency in Saché, France.
